Part A — Knowledge (20 pts)
Setup & Roles
- How many players and how many hosts per standard game?
- Name all four classic roles and state how many of each exist in a 10-player game.
- Which team does the Sheriff belong to? Which team does the Don belong to?
- What are the exact win conditions for Red and for Black?
- Are custom roles like "Lover", "Doctor", or "Maniac" allowed at Mystery Games? Why or why not?
Phase Flow
- During Night 1 ("Agreement"), can mafia members speak out loud? What do they do instead?
- In what order do players speak on Day 1? How does this change on Day 2 and beyond?
- How long is each player's day speech?
- What word or words must a player use to end their speech?
- When a player nominates a candidate, what does the host say?
Voting
- On Day 0 (the "zero circle"), if only one candidate is nominated, what happens?
- A player stays silent during voting. How is their vote counted?
- Does a voted-out player's role get revealed to the table?
- Walk through a "Car Crash" (tie). What are the exact steps?
- How long does each tied player get for their additional statement during a car crash?
Night Actions
- During the shot, how does the host determine whether the mafia killed someone?
- How does the Sheriff signal their check, and how does the host respond?
- How does the Don's check differ from the Sheriff's check in the host's response?
- A player is killed on Night 1. What special right do they get?
- A player receives a "last minute." When does this happen and how long is it?
Part B — Edge Cases (10 pts)
Rule each scenario as host. Explain your reasoning.
Scenario 1 — The accidental "Honestly"
A player says "well, honestly speaking, I think..." during their day speech. It is their third foul. What is the consequence, and what can they still do during this minute?
Scenario 2 — The self-claim Sheriff
On Day 2, two players both claim to be the Sheriff. No night check has happened yet that clears either. How do you handle the situation as host — what do you say, what do you enforce, what do you leave to the table?
Scenario 3 — The silent mafia
During Night 2, the three mafia members point at three different players. What happens? What do you announce in the morning?
Scenario 4 — The phone hat breach
A player reaches into the hat in the middle of the table during a day speech to grab their phone, claiming an emergency. How do you handle this in the moment without killing the game's mood?
Scenario 5 — The crying player
A player starts crying at the table during a heated voting round, apparently sincerely. What is the rule? What do you actually do?
Part C — Live Shadow (Pass / Fail)
- Observe at least two complete games sitting next to a certified host.
- Co-host at least one game with a certified host present, running the phases while they correct.
- Get sign-off from the certifying host.
